This dynamic church, which is now two campuses, began an an idea with fervent prayer on May 13, 1960. That is when three families of the Northglenn area met with representatives from three sponsoring churches to begin an American Baptist Church in Adams County. With support from the Colorado Baptist Convention and the Rocky Mountain Association, this handful of people called its first pastor, the Reverend A.R. Smith.
Pastor Smith faithfully led the congregation through the early "growing pains" of services held in the parsonage on the corner of 104th & Melody, land acquisition and building programs. When he retired in 1963, he left the legacy of a firm foundation upon which the future pastor could build.
That Pastor was the Reverend Roland Taylor of Spring Valley, CA. From December, 1963, until his retirement on December 31, 1992, Crossroads Church grew and flourished. The continual need for additional space to accommodate the thriving congregation testifies to the effectiveness of Pastor Taylor's 29 years of service.
When Pastor Taylor retired at the end of 1992, the search committee did a careful evaluation of the pastoral needs for the church, which now had about 400 worshippers. After much prayer and consideration, they called Kim Skattum, a man with the needed professional qualifications, a decade of experience and a pastor's heart. Under Pastor Skattum's leadership, Crossroads continue to draw people who long to know God and to grow in their relationship with Him.
Today Crossroads is a vibrant body of believers serving the North Metro Denver and beyond. One church, multiple locations. The South Campus at 104th & Huron is our original, the North Campus at 128th & I-25 opened in March 2007, and our online campus serves people around the world. Our vision is to be a life-giving anchor church, serving people toward Jesus.
