Growth Track 1c

Big Ideas

The below videos are from The Bible Project, a group of Bible scholars and artists in Portland, Oregon. Here are a few suggestions to get the most out of these videos.

  1. Take the time and watch them a couple times to take in all they have to explain. Although they are animated, the videos are deep! If you have a friend to watch them with, all the better!
  2. In the videos they will reference various books (sections) of the Bible. Take the time to pause the videos and read whatever is of interest to you. If you don’t have a Bible, you can access one on your tablet or phone at Download the ESV Bible (English Standard Version), which is the one we use at Crossroads.
  3. Write down any insights you discover and/or any questions you have and discuss them with your Guide. If you did not begin your journey with a Guide, we can set you up with one at any time. Just text the keyword GUIDE to 720.513.1933 and we help you connect with someone.

1 | Who is God?

The God portrayed in the Bible isn’t easy to understand, but what if we could better understand what it is that we can’t understand? In this video, The Bible Project will explore the complex identity of God displayed in the storyline of the Bible, and (surprise!) it all leads to Jesus.

2 | What are people?

This video traces the idea of humans as co-rulers alongside God, who are commissioned to develop the world and its resources and take it into new horizons. How has this human vocation been compromised by our selfishness and evil, and how did Jesus open up a new way of being human through his life, death, and resurrection?

3 | What is the Bible?

This is episode 1 of an ongoing series that explores the origins, content, and purpose of the Bible. Here you'll be introduced to a condensed history of how the Bible came into existence, and the different forms of the Bible in the Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant Christian traditions.

4 | What is the Old Testament?

Watch The Bible Project's overview video on the Old Testament, also known as the Hebrew Bible, or the TaNaK. This video breaks down the literary design of the entire Old Testament and its flow of thought.

5 | What is the New Testament?

Watch The Bible Project's overview video on the New Testament. This video breaks down the literary design of the entire New Testament and how it continues the story of the Hebrew Scriptures.

6 | What is the Gospel?

In this video, The Bible Project traces the origins of the word “gospel” and how it ties the story of the Old Testament together with the story of Jesus and his announcement of God’s kingdom. Jesus brought God’s rule and reign to the world in a very upside-down way, which is the best news you could ask for.

This concludes the content of GROWTRACK #1

We hope it has been enjoyable and helpful in understanding the big story of the Bible. From here, we would encourage you to continue growing by taking additional steps forward. We have two specific opportunities we would like to offer to you.

  • Community Groups are small groups of people (12-to-15), who meet regularly to simply walk life together. They encourage each other, have faith-oriented conversations to deepen their connection with God, and support each other seeing God’s activity in the midst of our daily lives. If you’re interested in checking out a Community Group, ask your Guide, or connect directly with (our Community Groups Director.
  • GROWTHTRACK #2 is an invitation to either 1) explore a subject of your choice or 2) read the Bible for yourself. If you have a specific need or interest that you want to better understand from a biblical perspective, exploring a subject might be the avenue for you. If you simply want to read the Bible for yourself (with help from Bible Project videos, the second option might be great for you! As your Guide about these options or, if you’re doing GROWTHTRACKS without a Guide, text 720-513-1933 and we will connect you with the content.
