GROUP DISCUSSION
1. Open with prayer. (2-5 min)
2. Share your story: Describe a situation when you received mercy from someone at a time when you really needed it. (7-10 min)
3. Read James 2:1-13.
4. Discuss these questions with your group. (20-45 min)
Looking back at your notes from this week’s message, was there anything you heard for the first time, stuck with you, challenged or confused you?
My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. (James 2:1)
What are some common assumptions that people make about those who are (by all appearances) wealthy or poor?
How can these assumptions, even if they are true, hinder us in having a God-honoring response to them?
For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. (James 2:13)
React to the following statement: “Showing mercy to others means mercy for me.”
In what areas of your life do you occasionally need mercy?
How could your actions and prejudices be keeping you from receiving the mercy you need?
LIVING IN 4D
Mercy: God not condemning us as we deserve.
Grace: God blessing us in ways we do not deserve.
How can you imitate God’s mercy and grace toward a particular person this week?
What is the one important thing you will take away from this weekend’s message or our community group discussion? Is there any challenge, difficulty or praise that you would like to share with the group for prayer?
