Print

1. Open with prayer. (2-5 min)
2. Read 2 Corinthians 1:3-11.
3. Discuss these questions with your group. (20-45 min)

MY STORY | Vulnerability
How would you be a different person today if you had not gone through certain difficult and challenging experiences? (7-10 min)

DIGGING DEEPER | Practical Biblical Application
[God] comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Corinthians 1:4)

What does the phrase “pay it forward” mean to you? In what sense are we passing along to others what God has given to us? Give specific examples.

If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. (2 Corinthians 1:6)

Why would comfort be meaningless apart from the painful experiences of life?

GROWING TOGETHER | Spiritual Friendship
Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. (2 Corinthians 1:7)

React to this quote:
“Grief shared is cut in half; joy shared is doubled.”

What is it about being around people who love us, people we trust, that make challenging times easier to endure?

LIVING IN 4D | Missional Living
Get in touch with someone you know who has recently experienced a significant loss. Ask that person how the grieving process is going for him or her. Even if they’re a little surprised at your question, offer to be a listening ear.

What is the one important thing you will take away from this weekend’s message or our community group discussion? Is there any challenge, difficulty or praise that you would like to share with the group for prayer?
