Pastor Matt reminded us that we can find contentment in God, no matter what our life circumstances are, because he is our loving and caring Shepherd.

MY STORY

What tends to stir up discontent in your heart?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO HEAR?

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures.

He leads me beside still waters.

He restores my soul.

He leads me in paths of righteousness

for his name's sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me ...

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

all the days of my life,

and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord

forever. (Psalm 23)

Name all the shepherd/sheep metaphors King David uses in this psalm.

In what ways did the shepherd care for his sheep so that they felt cared for and content?

What does God want us to hear? Based on the passages above, what are the factual “takeaways” that are meaningful to you?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO DO?

Why does having the Lord as our shepherd make all the difference when the storms of life hit us?

What does it mean to be content, but still have the desire to grow? Why are these two things not mutually exclusive?

What does God want us to do? Flowing from our reading and interpretation, what action does this passage or the Spirit’s nudging us toward?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO?

Pastor Matt said, “Everything the shepherd does flows out of his goodness, his kindness. There are days in our lives when that seems abundantly clear and there are days, if we are honest, where that feels very difficult to believe. There are times we hold on only by faith. Life makes no sense right now, but the Lord is my Shepherd, and everything, EVERYTHING, flows out of God’s goodness and loving kindness. ”

How did you answer these questions at the end of Pastor Matt’s sermon?

Where am I striving instead of resting?

Where am I trying to satisfy my soul with something only God can provide?

Where have I wandered because I stopped trusting in God’s direction?

Where am I living as though I don’t have enough?

This week, trust God by giving these things to him.

What does God want ME to do? What is the personal application and action step that the Holy Spirit is calling you toward?
