GROUP DISCUSSION
1. Open with prayer. (2-5 min)
2. Share your story ... Is there anyone in your sphere of influence who provokes feelings of fear? If so, why do you think this happens? (7-10 min)
3. Discuss these questions with your group. (20-45 min)
4. Read 1 Samuel 18:12:-30; John 14:16-17, 26-27

Looking back at your notes from this week’s message, was there anything you heard for the first time, stuck with you, challenged or confused you?

Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul. (1 Samuel 18:12)

Why is life without God so scary?

The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you .... Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. (John 14:26-27)

How does our awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence in us help us with our fears?

Now Saul's daughter Michal loved David. And they told Saul, and the thing pleased him. Saul thought, "Let me give her to him, that she may be a snare for him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him." (1 Samuel 18:20-21)

What's your go-to control response: Fight, Flight, or Freeze? What are some ways you've tried to address your fears through control?

When Saul saw and knew that the Lord was with David, and that Michal, Saul's daughter, loved him, Saul was even more afraid of David. So Saul was David's enemy continually. (1 Samuel 18:28-29)

How can your fears direct your focus to something that needs your attention? At what point do your fears become unhealthy?

PLAN OF ACTION
Bring your Top 3 fears to God this week. Ask "Have I done everything I legitimately can to address these fears?" If the answer is yes, bring all of these fears to God in prayer. Think about also sharing these concerns with someone you trust.

What is the one important thing you will take away from this weekend’s message or our community group discussion? Is there any challenge, difficulty or praise that you would like to share with the group for prayer?
