3. Read Luke 12:13-21
4. Discuss these questions with your group. (20-45 min)
Looking back at your notes from this week’s message, was there anything you heard for the first time, stuck with you, challenged or confused you?
Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:13-15)
What is the difference between healthy and unhealthy desires?
Where do you draw the line?
And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:16-21)
What’s one (very expensive) item, if you were to receive, would solve a multitude of problems for you?
What would be the deep emotional “pay off” for having that item in hand? (for example, a deeper sense of security or value).
In what sense could God provide that “pay off” right now?
LIVING IN 4D
Are there any successes in the lives of others that you’ve resisted celebrating?
If so, who comes to mind? In light of the Lord’s generosity to you, how can you lean into celebrating God’s generosity with that person?
What is the one important thing you will take away from this weekend’s message or our community group discussion? Is there any challenge, difficulty or praise that you would like to share with the group for prayer?
Message Notes
You can add your own personal sermon notes along the way. When you're finished, you'll be able to email or download your notes.
