Pastor Matt reminded us that God the Father is creator of all things, because it's in his very nature to be creative. He invented life and then sustains every part of that creation — including your minute-to-minute living and breathing.
MY STORY
What the most creative solution to a problem that you put into motion—and it worked!
WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO HEAR?
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. "
(Genesis 1:1-2, 26)
What are all the things that God created? What was his primary "tool" for creating? What different "tool" did he use to create the first human male and the first human female? (See Genesis 2:7)
How are human beings completely different from everything else God created?
What does it mean to have dominion over creation (in terms of taking care of it, using it, perhaps even improving it)?
What does God want us to hear? What are some of the more factual "takeaways" from this passage for you?
WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO DO?
React to the following story: A scientist challenges God by saying to him "I can create life just as easily as you can." God says, "Challenge accepted". So the scientist picks up a handful of dirt and says, "Let's start with this." And God replies, "Get your own dirt."
In what sense does our desire and ability to create come from being made in the image of God?
What is God clearly creating in your life, perhaps even out of the ashes of a difficult experience?
What does God want us to do? Flowing out of our reading and interpretation, what action does this passage or the Spirit's leading, call us to?
WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO?
What is something that you consistently create "out of nothing" ... (conceding, of course, that we can only create from that which God has already provided).
What's something you've created that God would want to put on his "refrigerator," like a proud parent?
Honor God as Creator this week by creating something that is likely bring him delight.
What does God want ME to do? What is the personal application and action step God is calling you, personally, toward?
