Pastor Matt reminded us that God is completing the story of redemption through us, specifically in Jesus’ directives in the Great Commission.
MY STORY
Describe a time when you were given a task to do, but not given the authority you needed to do it right. What would have been different if you did have the needed license to move forward?
WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO HEAR?
Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
What is the extent and scope of the authority that was given to Jesus by God? Is anything excluded?
What are the three commands Jesus gives to us in the Great Commission?
What does God want us to hear? Based on the passages above, what are the factual “takeaways” that are meaningful to you?
WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO DO?
Given that the authority of Jesus is total and unconditional, what difference does that make when it comes to his command to cultivate and build up disciples?
How can we tap into what Crossroads is already doing in order to fulfill the three commands of the Great Commission?
What does God want us to do? Flowing out of our reading and interpretation, what action does this passage or the Spirit’s leading, nudging us toward?
WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO?
The three commands in the Great Commission include: making, baptizing, and teaching disciples.
Which of these three commands are you most drawn to?
How has God equipped you to fulfill that particular part of the Great Commission?
Who can help you do that?
What does God want ME to do? What is the personal application and action step that the Holy Spirit is calling you toward?
