GROUP DISCUSSION
1. Open with prayer. (2-5 min)
2. Share your story:
What’s your “go-to” song when you need to be inspired? Tell us why that song is special to you. (7-10 min)
3. Read Psalm 98.
4. Discuss these questions with your group. (20-45 min)

Looking back at your notes from this week’s message, was there anything you heard for the first time, stuck with you, challenged or confused you?

Oh sing to the Lord a new song,
for he has done marvelous things!

His right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him. (Psalm 98:1)

How does singing (not just listening to music) tap into the emotional part of our souls?

How should you engage in a worship service when you’re just not connecting with the music?

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!

Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody! (Psalm 98:4-5)

The psalmist tells us to make a joyful noise to the Lord.

Is there a place for songs of sadness or lament? How can these songs be worshipful even if they’re not joyful?

The lyre is an ancient stringed instrument that took long hours of practice to master.

What spiritual gifts are the musicians and vocalists exercising on the stage as they lead us in worship? In what sense has God made us dependent upon their gifts?

How would our worship be changed if these musical gifts were not present?

LIVING IN 4D

Songs can be a bridge for deeper conversations.

If you were to have a spiritual discussion with someone about the song below, where do you think it would go?

Demons by Imagine Dragons

What is the one important thing you will take away from this weekend’s message or our community group discussion? Is there any challenge, difficulty or praise that you would like to share with the group for prayer?
