1. Open with prayer. (2-5 min)
2. Read Psalm 13.
3. Discuss these questions with your group. (20-45 min)

MY STORY | Vulnerability
Describe an [big] unmet expectation that caused you a great deal of disappointment.

DIGGING DEEPER | Practical Biblical Application
How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? (Psalm 13:1-2)

Why is it common for people to feel like God has abandoned them when a significant loss occurs?

What inaccurate expectations could some of these people be holding onto?

GROWING TOGETHER | Spiritual Friendship
But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me. (Psalm 13:5-6)

Why is it often easier to see how God was at work during a trial only after the crisis has passed?

How can genuine hope in Christ keep our heads above water when a flood of significant losses hit us?

MOVING OUTWARD | Faith in Action
Pray through the list of losses Pastor Chris encouraged us to create a couple of weeks ago.

Pour out your lament to God about these things that were valuable to you, but are now gone.

Looking back at your notes from this week’s message, was there anything you heard for the first time, stuck with you, challenged or confused you?

What is the one important thing you will take away from this weekend’s message or our community group discussion? Is there any challenge, difficulty or praise that you would like to share with the group for prayer?
