Pastor Jon reminded us that we have a unified story to pass along to the rising generations.

MY STORY
What was a favorite story in your family that kept getting repeated by a parent or grandparent?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO HEAR?
“I will utter dark sayings from of old, things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done. He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God... (Psalm 78:1-8, excerpts)

What seems to be the psalmist’s primary concern? What does he want to see prevented, at all costs?

What can happen when older generations withhold important information from the generations who follow them?

What does God want us to hear? Based on the passage and the questions above, what takeaways do you think God has revealed to you?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT US TO DO?                                                                                                                                           What types of language adjustments does one generation need to make in order to effectively communicate with a different generation? Give an example.

What are some things you wish your parents would have told you? Why do you think they didn’t pass that information along?

Why is it tempting to withhold useful information from a young person who seems indifferent to what you’ve experienced?

What does God want us to do? Flowing out of our reading and interpretation, what action does this passage, or the Spirit's leading, call us to?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO?
Initiate a “story exchange” with someone younger than yourself. Focus on stories where the lessons learned were life-changing.

Consider starting a bullet-point “legacy blog” where you describe (and publish) the experiences, or the people, that/who were pivotal in your life.

What does God want ME to do? What is the personal application and action step God is calling you, personally, toward?
