Keeping You in the Loop #44

Renovations at Thornton and Baptisms!

by Pastor Matt Manning on January 07, 2021

Happy New Year Crossroads Family!

I hope you had a peaceful Christmas and a great New Year's. At Crossroads we are excited for what is in store for us in 2021.

If you were in church this weekend at Thornton, or watched online, you noticed that we did some redecorating over the holidays. Pastor Tim, Pastor Jared, and their teams did some amazing work. We have totally re-done the MPR stage, we converted the worship office into the Crossroadsabc.Live Production Suite, and Room 100 into a Production Studio for video recording.

While all of this will certainly enhance the in-person services at Thornton, most of all of the work was done to ensure a high quality of production for our online services. Why was this important? The reality is having a high-quality production speaks value to the unchurched and the churched, particularly in younger generations. Our vision is to build a multiethnic, multigenerational church focused on making disciples of the next generation–our kids and grandkids. When it comes to the weekend services, we always want to help people connect with God during the gathering, whether that be in-house or online. Technology plays a significant role in how we facilitate that experience these days. We want to utilize our audio/video/lighting to quickly establish trust and create a sense of familiarity for those unfamiliar with the church. Our end goal is always to move people closer to Jesus, that they might recognize His unique worth (glory), and be drawn to placing their trust in Him.

When we had our assessment through Unstuck, one of their comments was that "our content was great but the packaging needed to be upgraded." We all knew what they were talking about–our worship spaces have historically been muted. But when you read Scripture there is something about bringing glory to God in worship through the constructed and designed space. When you read about the building of the Tabernacle in the Old Testament, it was not put together with clay, but with gold, onyx, and the finest linens. It wasn't just the local men's group that built it, but specifically skilled artists. All of it was built with an aim of bringing glory to God through worship. Could the Hebrews have worshipped God without all the gold and pretty things? Absolutely! But God actually commanded them to make it shiny for His glory. It might surprise you, but when Northglenn Campus was built, this was some of the mindset. The "rock wall" was actually a commissioned art piece that was featured in magazines. If you look at it closely you can see the crown of thorns around the cross. Could a regular wall have been built? Absolutely! But something about the art, that extra touch, spoke to the people of the 1960s and 1970s about the glory of God. We are wanting to do the same in our culture and in our day. We want to put our best foot forward in bringing Jesus glory through all the means we have–online and in-person as we run after the vision that God has given us as a church!

BAPTISMS ARE BACK!

One of the goals we have with our new vision, is to see people come to Jesus and share that faith through baptism. Baptism is the beautiful picture of an inward reality (salvation) demonstrated in an outward way. It is the story of the way God works in us!

Well, COVID really messed with our ability to do baptisms in 2020. We have been working hard to make sure it is not forgotten, but actually prominent in why we do what we do. So starting today, if you want to be baptized, we are ready! You can fill out this form and you will be contacted by Doug Schmidt. He will walk you through what baptism is, the importance of sharing your faith story, and how we are doing baptisms in a safe way during this season.

We are praying for 300 people to come to faith this year through us … the Church!

TAKING GENEROSITY TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL
